What is our Main Mission?

As I was out walking and praying this morning, I asked the Lord to increase and bless the ministry of PCU more and more. My thoughts turned to what I can do to help our school to grow. As I was thinking about ways we can promote our growth (such as more advertising or marketing through social media) I was checked in my spirit and reminded about what my main mission is and why God called me to preach and teach. My main mission is to promote Jesus Christ and His kingdom. This is why God sent us as His ambassadors to the world. He sent us to preach Christ, as the apostle Paul declared to the church at Corinth,

“For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.”

What happens when we preach Christ? Not only do we persuade people to turn to God and to follow Christ, but as we preach Christ we are promoting Christ and advancing His kingdom! We are helping His kingdom to grow and increase!

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary the word promote means: a. to advance in station, rank, or honor : RAISE; b. to contribute to the growth or prosperity of someone or something.

The Oxford Dictionary gives a similar meaning.

1. To further the progress of something, (especially a cause, venture, or aim);

2. advance or raise (someone) to a higher position or rank.

God has already promoted His Son to the highest rank and place of authority as Lord over all of His creation. As we preach Christ we are endeavoring to promote Him to this highest place in the minds and hearts of people everywhere.

This is really the ultimate mission of our school and what we are mainly all about. Yes, our vision is to equip people to be more effective leaders in their communities, but our goal behind this vision is to promote Christ and advance His kingdom throughout the world to the glory of God. PCU exists for this purpose. And this remains our main goal and objective.

This is what God reminded me of today that helps me keep my role and mission at PCU in the right perspective while keeping the main goal always in view.
